Epidural steroid injections are designed to help individuals with pinched nerve pain going down the arms or legs. This is commonly known as sciatica. Frequently people with disc herniations may experience pinched nerve symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, burning, etc. By introducing an anti-inflammatory agent (cortisone or steroid) into the epidural space in the spine, it can help to relieve the pinched nerve symptoms.
